QuokForge
Well for quite some time I've wanted to be able to give back to the OSDev community. Not just some code or advice. And playing the role of a moderator on the OSDev.org forums, while pretty cool, just didn't fill the void for me.
Being as my own OS is of course always under constant rewrite and may very well never see the light of day, I started on the quest for an idea. An idea that, hopefully, would allow me to both contribute to the community at large and offer up something that's not yet available.
That idea, friends, is QuokForge! After hearing many people complain about various annoyances with SourceForge, Google Code, and GitHub, I thought that offering some project hosting to the OSDev community would be great! I was already using trac for my own project, and that was working out very well.
There's just one problem with trac. It's not multi-project aware, at least not without some major patching, hacks, and trickery. I didn't want to go that far. I had looked at redmine in the past and shrugged it off because I'm really not a Ruby on Rails type of guy. However, after another project I was following ditched GitHub for Redmine on a virtual server, I decided to give Redmine a shot.
I like what I've seen so far. There's a few things I don't like, but I won't get in to that here. Hopefully some patches will be offered up (even if I have to learn Ruby myself!) or some plugins to 'correct' some behavior I dislike are floating around the intertubes somewhere.
Anyway, with Redmine installed, I decided to offer hosting to a select few people and their projects. A fellow OSDev.org moderator, JackScott, bought the domain and pointed it here. Thanks, JackScott!
QuokForge is currently in 'closed' alpha testing. Closed because we're not accepting new projects, but it is of course publicly available for anyone to look at the projects, report issues, and the like.
If there's some functionality missing that you'd like to see, please drop me a line!
